What is powerlifting?

Powerlifting is a strength sport built on three lifts: the squat, the bench press and the deadlift. The total of the three best lifts decides the ranking. It requires stiffer and more accurate equipment than standard strength training: loads often exceed 200 kg and every kilo counts.

What powerlifting equipment do you need to start at home?

  1. A rack or squat stands to squat and bench press safely.
  2. A wide, stable bench press bench.
  3. A 20 kg powerlifting bar, stiff, with aggressive knurling.
  4. Plates, ideally calibrated, and collars.
  5. A platform or crash pads for the deadlift.

Powerlifting racks and benches

The powerlifting combo rack combines a squat station and a bench press in one frame, with dedicated hooks: €799.99 for the lever model (hook height adjustable from 100 to 170 cm without removing the weights), €1,149.99 for the combo rack with roller hooks and a 500 kg maximum load. If space is tight, the Athéna squat stands (60 x 60 mm steel, 300 kg, 74 x 61 cm footprint) replace a rack. The UF Power bench, 35 cm wide (30 cm in the competition version), supports 750 kg.

Powerlifting bar and specialty bars

The UF-Power Zeus is a competition powerlifting bar (power bar): 29 mm diameter, 210,000 PSI, aggressive knurling, for under €300. To vary your lifts:

  • UF-Buffalo squat bar: 140 mm camber, 32 mm, 1,000 kg capacity, to squat while sparing your shoulders and elbows.
  • UF-Deadlift Goerner deadlift bar: 27 mm, 235 cm, flexible, for a progressive pull off the floor in the deadlift.
  • SSB Atlas safety squat bar: load on the traps, upright torso, 700 kg capacity.
  • CSB multi-grip bar: three neutral grips to ease the joints in the bench press.

Why calibrated plates for powerlifting?

A UF calibrated plate has a tolerance of ±10 g and follows the IPF colour code. Thinner than standard plates, they let you load more on the sleeve, and their precise bore limits play on the bar. Available in painted or chrome steel, with sets from 157.5 to 459 kg sold for less than the plates bought individually (up to €80 saved).

Training to IPF competition standards

In powerlifting competition (IPF and the Fédération Française de Force), you lift on a stiff 20 kg powerlifting bar, calibrated plates in the IPF colour code (red 25 kg, blue 20 kg, yellow 15 kg, green 10 kg) and a competition combo rack. Training on the same calibrated equipment means finding the same grip, plate thickness and hook height references on competition day: our calibrated plates follow this colour code, the UF-Power Zeus bar has the stiffness and knurling of a competition bar, and the UF Power bench comes in a 30 cm competition width.

Deadlift: platform, deadlift jack and protection

The 227 x 106 cm deadlift and weightlifting platform, longer than an Olympic bar, has a bamboo top and 30 mm rubber drop zones. Crash pads (75 x 57 x 13 cm) cushion the bar on the way down, and the Deadlift Jack (Pocket or Pro Roller) lifts the loaded bar so you can change plates.

Powerlifting accessories

A powerlifting kit or individual accessories: chains and resistance bands for variable resistance, 50 mm collars (steel or magnetic aluminium), a 20° squat wedge: everything you need to work on the weak points of each lift.

Powerlifting offer: up to €180 off

Combo rack, UF-Power bar and calibrated set bought together: up to €180 off and free collars, plus 10% off the deadlift platform. The discount is applied automatically in your basket.

Powerlifting FAQ

What is the difference between a powerlifting bar and an Olympic bar?

A powerlifting bar is stiffer and has more aggressive knurling, with centre knurling for the squat. A weightlifting bar is more flexible and spins faster, for the snatch and the clean and jerk.

Is your equipment IPF approved?

Our calibrated plates follow the tolerance and colour code of IPF competitions, and the UF-Power powerlifting bar follows their specifications. They are designed for training and competition preparation; no official federation approval is claimed.

Do you need calibrated plates to train?

No, but their ±10 g accuracy and slim profile are useful as soon as the load goes up and for training in competition conditions.

Combo rack or power rack for powerlifting?

A combo rack is designed for the squat and the bench press, with a built-in bench. A power rack is more versatile (pull-ups, pulley, accessories) and requires a separate bench.

Which platform for the deadlift?

A platform longer than the bar (227 cm for ours) so that the plates always land on the rubber, and one that protects the floor and the equipment.
