Band pegs for a rack: what is variable resistance?
The CS-1 band pegs let you attach resistance bands at different heights on the uprights of your rack. The band adds tension that builds as you extend the movement. On a squat, resistance is minimal at the bottom (where you are most vulnerable) and maximal at the top (where you are strongest). This accommodating resistance principle forces your muscles to accelerate through the whole range, which develops power and speed of contraction.
This kind of work is used in powerlifting (the Westside method), in strength and conditioning and in rehabilitation, to improve the strength curve on the main lifts.
How to use the CS-1 band pegs
The 4 pegs mount on the 75 x 75 mm uprights of the CS-1 rack. Place 2 at the bottom of the uprights and 2 at the top to cover every use case:
-
Bands from the bottom up (accommodating resistance): hook the bands to the lower pegs and run them over the bar. Tension increases as you rise. Ideal for the squat, the bench press and the deadlift.
-
Bands from the top down (reverse band): hook the bands to the upper pegs and attach them to the bar. Tension decreases as you rise, which lightens the load at the top of the movement. Useful for work off the floor (strength at the bottom) or to assist pull-ups.
For which exercises?
-
Banded squat (accommodating or reverse band)
-
Banded bench press
-
Banded deadlift
-
Banded overhead press
-
Band-assisted pull-ups (top anchor)
-
Good mornings with variable resistance
-
Face pulls and band pull-aparts (upright anchor)
Why add band pegs to your rack?
-
Develops power and speed of contraction on the main lifts
-
Improves the strength curve by adding resistance where you are strongest
-
Protects the joints: reduced tension in the most vulnerable positions
-
Set of 4: top and bottom anchoring to cover every exercise
-
